Gastroenterology Physician Jobs & Recruitment
This is the Gastroenterology hub I send candidates and clients to when they want my honest read on the specialty — what's actually moving in offers, which contract clauses are worth fighting over, and what has changed since the last time you looked at the market.
What the Gastroenterology market looks like from my desk
GI recruitment is shaped by two forces: the screening-colonoscopy boom and PE consolidation of gastroenterology partnerships. My typical GI search is either a hospital-employed group adding endoscopy capacity or a PE-backed GI platform recruiting an associate physician with partnership-track economics. Advanced endoscopy and IBD subspecialty searches have separate lead times and comp structures.
What Gastroenterology compensation actually looks like in offers I close
Hospital-employed GI offers I close run $475K-$565K base with endoscopy-volume bonus overlay; total compensation in mature partnership practices regularly clears $750K-$900K by year three with ASC ownership distributions. Advanced endoscopy commands $600K-$725K base. The most under-modeled comp component in GI is ASC ownership equity — the distributions on a busy endoscopy ASC can exceed clinical comp over a 5-year horizon and should be valued separately when comparing offers.
Gastroenterology contract clauses I push back on
GI contracts need scrutiny on endoscopy-volume guarantees during ramp-up, ASC partnership-track timing and valuation, and call coverage for hospital consult and emergent endoscopy. Restrictive covenants in PE-backed GI platforms have been drafted aggressively in some markets and should be scoped down. Anesthesia services arrangement at the ASC affects per-case economics and should be understood before signing.
What has shifted in Gastroenterology hiring recently
GLP-1 agonist prescribing has become a meaningful workload and revenue stream in many GI practices and is now appearing in productivity formulas. Advanced endoscopy capability (EUS, ERCP, third-space endoscopy) commands accelerating premiums and is increasingly an expected competency in mid-sized markets. PE consolidation continues, with rolled equity replacing traditional partnership tracks at several large platforms.
