Physician Recruiters in Florida

What follows is what I tell physicians and employers about running a search in Florida. The licensure pace, the incentive programs that actually move candidates, and where I see real recruitment heat right now.

What Florida medical licensure looks like in practice

The Florida Board of Medicine and Florida Board of Osteopathic Medicine license through processes that typically clear in 60-120 days for US-trained physicians. Florida is not an Interstate Medical Licensure Compact participant. The state operates a separate Telehealth Provider Registration that allows out-of-state physicians to provide telehealth services to Florida patients with limited in-state activity, which has been a meaningful tool for tele-coverage models.

Florida loan-repayment, J-1, and recruitment incentives I use

The Florida Reimbursement Assistance for Medical Education (FRAME) program supports primary care, behavioral health, and dental providers serving HPSA-designated sites. The Florida Conrad State 30 J-1 waiver program is competitive and oversubscribed in most fiscal years given the size of the IMG candidate pool seeking Florida placements. NHSC loan repayment is broadly used at FQHCs across rural panhandle and central interior counties.

Where Florida demand is concentrated right now

Florida's recruitment market is one of the largest in the country and operates as several distinct sub-markets. South Florida and the Tampa Bay region are competitive employer-favorable markets across most specialties. The panhandle, rural central interior, and the Treasure Coast carry most of the state's recruitment need, particularly for primary care, behavioral health, and OB. Fort Myers and Naples have had unusual growth-driven recruitment dynamics tied to in-migration. The senior-care and post-acute markets are oversized for the population given Florida's demographics.

Florida healthcare employer landscape

Florida is one of the four largest physician-recruitment markets in the country. AdventHealth, HCA Florida, BayCare, Baptist Health South Florida, Orlando Health, Lee Health, Jackson Health, and Tampa General drive recruitment volume. The active recruitment heat I see across these systems concentrates in Miami, Tampa, Orlando, Jacksonville, Fort Lauderdale, Naples, Sarasota, Pensacola, Panhandle markets, with the rural and critical-access network outside those metros producing the most acute physician-shortage searches I run in Florida. Rural panhandle and central interior counties carry HPSA designations, which materially changes what I can build into a Florida offer once federal and state incentive stacking is layered on top of base compensation.
