What to expect when you reach out
For employers, the first call is a 30-minute scoping conversation: role definition, compensation band, dealbreakers, must-haves, timeline. Within 1 business day of that call we send a written engagement proposal documenting the search scope, fee structure (retained vs. contingency), and milestone schedule. Search activation begins as soon as the engagement is signed. First written qualified shortlist arrives within 30–60 days.
For physician candidates, the first call is a 20–30 minute career conversation: current role, what's driving exploration, geographic and family situation, compensation expectations, specialty/subspecialty preferences. All candidate conversations are strictly confidential — we never share names or CVs with employers without your written consent. We can scope the market and share comp benchmarks even if you're 12–24 months from a move.
Common reasons people contact us
- Engaging a recruiter for a permanent physician search (retained or contingency)
- Locum tenens coverage — vacation, maternity/paternity, bridge, new service line
- Physician candidates exploring permanent or locum opportunities
- Comp benchmarking — specialty + geography modeling
- J-1 waiver and NHSC loan repayment placements at HPSA-designated sites
- Physician leadership searches (CMO, Department Chief, Medical Director)
What information helps us scope your request faster
For employers, three things in your first message cut a day off the scoping call: (1) specialty and subspecialty, (2) state and metro (or "rural critical-access" / "academic medical center" / "FQHC" as applicable), and (3) timeline pressure — replacement search vs. new program build vs. growth role. We do not need a position description in the first message; we will build a working version on the scoping call.
For physician candidates, the first message that gets a useful response includes: (1) your specialty + any subspecialty fellowship, (2) state(s) you are licensed in or willing to license in, (3) target timeline (12 months, 6 months, immediate), and (4) a one-line note on what is driving exploration (better call structure, geography, comp, leadership growth, partner-track, locum flexibility). All candidate conversations are confidential — we never share your name or CV without per-opportunity written consent.
Who's on the recruiter team
PhysicianRecruitment.com is staffed by physician-recruiting specialists organized by specialty and geography. Each search has a named recruiter lead (not a rotating queue), and the recruiter you talk to during scoping is the recruiter who runs your search end-to-end. Blake Jamieson is the firm's principal; specialty recruiter leads cover primary care + hospital medicine, surgical specialties, IM subspecialties, mental health, women's health, hospital-based diagnostic and procedural, and physician leadership. Specialty assignment happens during scoping.
Response time and how we follow up
Inbound emails and form submissions receive a recruiter response within 1 business day — almost always same-day during business hours (M–F, 8a–6p Central). Phone calls during business hours typically reach a recruiter directly or get a callback inside 2 hours. After-hours messages are returned the next business morning. If you have a hard deadline, say so in the first message and we'll prioritize accordingly. We do not use a generic intake queue — physician recruiting is the only line of business we run.
